If a level cannot be solved, it is not a puzzle, it is a queue for your wallet. Royal Match and Block Blast! are the modern shape of the genre, bright and generous early and steadily tighter after. Cut the Rope, 2048 and Ballz are the older shape, where the only limit is you. Merge Dragons! and Brain Out go their own way. What each review is really tracking is the moment difficulty stops being design and starts being a sales pitch.

Verdicts at a glance
- Royal Match 7.6/10 A well-polished and genuinely fun match-3 game that's better designed than most of its peers, though it still leans on the genre's familiar monetization walls.
- Brain Out®: Can you pass it? 5.8/10 A fun novelty for an afternoon that runs dry fast, because the subversion loop is its only real mechanic.
- Block Blast! 7.3/10 A genuinely friction-free puzzle game that succeeds precisely because it asks nothing from you, though it offers little reason to return once you've plateaued.
- Cut the Rope 7.5/10 One of the most carefully designed casual puzzlers on mobile, still worth playing, even if the ad-supported model undercuts the zen atmosphere it built its reputation on.
- Merge Dragons! 5.5/10 An appealing idle-merge game undermined by aggressive monetization pacing that stalls free players just when the game gets interesting.
- 2048 6.2/10 A solid, honest implementation of a beloved puzzle format that is worth downloading if you want a clean, fuss-free number game.
- Ballz 4.8/10 A brief, enjoyable tap-and-aim diversion that runs out of ideas quickly and charges too many ads for what it delivers.
